Each day we come across an obstacle that we must overcome. Some days your obstacles may be minor such as passing a test in one of your classes or even just trying to get from one class to another on time. Other days, however, your challenges may be a little more difficult to conquer. This could be the death of a loved one, possibly a divorce and losing custody of your children, and even something that seems simple like depression.
We must find the strength in us to get through these challenges, some must dig deeper than others. Some turn to family to find strength, some turn to friends, some look deep within, and others turn to God. No matter how one gets over their obstacle, at the end of the day, they made it over and will continue on and only take steps forward.
As Friedrich Nietszche once said “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” To me, this means that when you are at the point of giving up and feel like you can no longer continue, but manage to find a way, these obstacles only end up making us stronger. If you make it through losing a loved one or make it through even one of your darkest days, in the end, you are only going to come out stronger than you were before. So again, as Friedrich said, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”
I chose this quote because I have had my own share of obstacles that I have had to overcome. I have had the minor challenges, but I have also had some of my own hardships. Some days I felt that things would never get better, and that this dark shadow would only continue to follow me, but things did begin to get easier. Once the light began to shine, even the slightest bit, I did soon see that I was a stronger person. The experiences I had to deal with made me stronger and when it came to another obstacle I had to overcome, I knew I had the strength in me to cope with the situation because of previous situations I got through in the past.
