The event I chose for my personal narrative was the death of my grandma, who passed away January 4th of this year. I chose this event because it truly has been the most life altering event that has occurred in my life. This unfortunate experience I was faced with half way through my senior year has changed the way I look at life, as well as it began to shape the new profound relationship I have with God amongst learning things along the way.
My grandma and I were always so close, and even though she may not have been physically close because she lived in Nebraska, she always was my best friend. She was always there whenever I needed her and would talk me through those stressful nights, the happy times, and of course, the high school drama. After she passed away I questioned why this had to happen and always why her? I never understood why she had to be the one taken away when she had so much more to give. Her death put me into a deep dark hole of grief that I was not expecting. I knew I would be sad over losing her, as anyone would, but the months of darkness and depression were not at all what I was expecting. I never thought I would be in such a dark place where you could not even see the light at the end of the tunnel. I didnít know when the pain would go away and I didnít know how to make it hurt less.
I soon after was introduced to a new church that I instantly fell in love with. Even just being in the presence of God in this warehouse made my pain lower quite drastically and almost immediately. Singing to God and worshiping him, as well as listening to the gospel, gave me goose bumps that ran up and down my spine. I felt as though I was a new person that could do anything because I had God with me and my grandma watching from above. I began to thrive in the words of the Lord and when I felt a little down or depressed, reading his word just lifted up my spirit and put light into my life.
After beginning a new relationship with God, my life had completely turned around and I began to fully trust in Him and trust in the plans He had, even if I didnít understand them. I also learned from this event and through God that whenever I think I have it bad, someone out there has it much worse. I learned so much from this significant, unfortunate event and due to that, I feel it has impacted me the most out of any other event in my life.
