The TC Boyle story I like the most so far has been “Little Fur People”. It was so ridiculous and funny that it kept me entertained and wanting to read more. Also, the story does a really good job at pointing out the irony in the rules against animal safety. I like the fact that Boyle wrote the story in a way that would make you sympathize with Grace and portrayed Officer Kraybil as the bad guy. I am upset about the ending though because we never really find out what happens to Grace or the squirrels. The story I liked the least was “Carnal Knowledge”. To me, it was really boring and the characters were all extremely stupid. Alena is some girl that doesn’t even have job but goes around “saving” animals and letting her dog pee on random people. I did however, like how Boyle slid in a little comedy with Alf peeing everywhere. Jim was a complete idiot. He gave up meat for a random girl whose dog pissed on him while he was sleeping. Then he proceeded to still stay with her after he found out she was crazy, thus resulting in him getting screwed over. He was just a sad guy wallowing in self-pity because he was thirty so he takes the first chance he can to interact with a female, even if her dog urinated on him. The story that is unlike anything I ever read was “Modern Love”. Boyle must have quite an imagination to write something like this. I have never once heard or even thought about a full body condom. That was extremely strange. It was also strange how Breda was obsessed with cleanliness and diseases too. I don’t even know how the narrator found her attractive after making him wear full body condom and go to her doctor and get tested. It seems like a lot of work and trouble for someone. Clearly he was just trying to get some, like most of the males in Boyle’s stories. I still don’t quite get the point of the whole story. To me, it seems pointless but gives a good laugh.
