This assignment requires an analysis of the author T.C. Boyle and his writing styles thus I will be doing a theme paper. The theme paper allows me to elaborate on multiple stories that contribute to the same subject. I am not limited to two stories. I am not limited to just one idea or topic. I can expand on how different stories all contribute to the same idea.
I am still unsure as to what theme I would like to expand on. What exactly is a theme versus a literary device? In hopes that I can find a theme relative to a common subject then I can develop my paper. What are themes in these stories that aren’t literary devices? Love is a subject, but is considered a literary device. Death is considered a literary device. If I tell how the characters add to the topic of death is that acceptable? How do I portray a theme without making the devices my main subject? What is a theme? Anything can be a subject, but what exactly is an appropriate theme? I am still greatly confused as to what theme I should write about because I do not know what themes are relative to T.C. Boyle and his bias stories. Could I write about bias? That would make sense, right? T.C. Boyle is bias on the subject of blank regarding , insert relation to prompt, blank. Yet again, I am confused.
Ultimately, I feel very confident about writing a literary analysis. I am not nervous to write a paper about why I believe something has transpired. Analyzing why the story went this way or how the stories are constructed bringing the writing a purpose is going to seem easy for me. I am solely nervous as to how I am going to construct the paper. How do I even start off the theme paper. Where do I bring in my ideas on the story. I am no longer writing about his writing style, I am writing about how Boyles factors in the story contribute to the theme, or subject matter which is beginning to confuse me and bring me difficulties.

Which option for the Boyle paper have you chosen (Theme or Compare/Contrast)? If theme, what theme have you chosen and why? What stories have you chosen for your paper and why?
