After writing my Boyle paper, I actually felt relieved. I believe that I worked very hard on that paper and that I put a lot of hard work in as well. I felt that I supported my thesis to the best of my ability and I am hoping that it is certainly noticed. The Boyle paper required a lot of textual support, whereas the personal narrative did not. One of the main differences between these two papers is that one is treated as a story and the other is treated as an analysis. The personal narrative was supposed to be able to convince the reader that this significant event affected you and your life today. When I wrote the personal narrative, I felt connected to the paper, not only because it was about my life, but also because I really liked writing about that subject. Throughout high school, I have written multiple papers about my grandma and how strong she was and how she taught me to be just like her, so I found joy in writing that paper. However, the Boyle paper required being able to think about why Boyle is making a character behave or speak like they are. The readers’ reactions to each character are due to Boyle and his beliefs. In this paper, we had to prove why we believed Boyle thought something about something else. This required quotes and more evidence from the stories that we chose. The paper that I found easiest to write was the personal narrative. I felt this was easier because I was sharing a story rather than proving what the author felt. I thought that I was being to repetitive in the Boyle paper, which I do not like, so therefore, I liked writing the personal narrative more. I feel that in the Boyle paper, my strengths were finding significant evidence in either quotes or summaries from the stories, and also being able to explain them. I feel that my weakness in this paper was repeating myself. Even though I followed the formula and I knew that we were supposed to follow that format, I still do not feel comfortable repeating myself numerous times. I struggled with that in this paper and also my research paper last year in high school.
