The Boyle paper differed from writing the personal narrative in many ways. One reason is because the Boyle stories already had themes in theme, so after going over it in class it was pretty easy to state the theme and create a thesis statement, where in the personal narrative you could come up with themes, which made it a little harder to come up with a thesis statement. Also, I had a lot more confidence in my personal narrative paper because it was coming from my experience, so I didn’t really feel I could go wrong unlike the Boyle paper. I feel neither were too hard, but if I had to pick one I would say the personal narrative was the easier one. Simply because it was MY experience, so it was way easier to write about how I was feeling than having to figure out how Boyle was feeling. Also, I felt a lot more confident about my personal narrative than my Boyle paper! The whole time I was writing the Boyle paper I felt like I was doing it wrong because I had to continue to restate the theme, thesis, and how Boyle was feeling unlike the personal narrative were I only had to state the theme twice (in my intro and conclusion), and express how I was feeling once. But honestly after Bates gave me the “observation, quotation, explanation” sheet, the theme paper was 10 times easier. I think my strengths in the Boyle paper were my body paragraphs and into. I had a lot of citations that supported the theme very well from both stories and I feel they flowed very nicely. Also, I was very proud of my intro paragraph. When I first began to write it I felt like I had stated everything in the intro (the name of the author, the stories/ characters, and them) in three short sentences which I didn’t feel was a paragraph. But after going in more depth about how to write it in class, it really came together and I was very proud of myself. I think my weaknesses were my conclusion and discussion paragraphs simply because I feel that they were basically the same. I feel I pretty much repeated myself in both paragraphs as far as stating how the author feels and addressing how Boyle got his point across in both stories. Like I feel like they could have come together as one paragraph even though I know they aren’t supposed to.

BOO! How did writing your Boyle paper differ from writing your personal narrative? Which one did you find easier to write? What do you feel were the strengths of your Boyle paper? Weaknesses?
