First off, Iím glad I now know the difference between the significance of the number 11 compared to the number 10. My experience in English 1100 this semester has been a good one. I have definitely been able to improve my writing and have been able to interpret what an author is saying in stories by reading Boyleís stories. I have been held responsible for my writing by having to meet with you to go over my papers before I turned them in. This class is different from others that Iíve taken before because I didnít have any ďbusy work.Ē My grades have been things that Iíve put a lot of time and effort into. I know that my grade wonít have any pointless 100s, which has made me work harder. I have benefited a lot from the model of observation, quotation, and explanation. Iíve always struggled with how to organize my paragraphs and that model makes it very easy to stay on track. This helped me a lot especially with the literary analysis. I hope that I can continue to use these in future English classes. I also benefitted from reading the TC Boyle stories. The stories themselves didnít help me as much as going over them in class and writing a literary analysis paper about them. Iíve never been very good at understanding what an author is implying about a story unless they come right out and say it. Reading the stories made me read through the lines and pick up on what he wanted us to understand. One thing that I donít think I benefitted from was the personal narrative. When I applied to colleges senior year I included one for almost every application. It wasnít something that I needed practice on because I had to do it so much last year. I also got a lot of help from previous English teachers for it. Another thing I didnít benefit from was the online discussions. I wish that they were do Monday instead of Friday because I always forget about them. Obviously that was more my responsibility, but itís still annoying when you wake up from a nap at 5:45 and realized you missed the discussion. Also, I had to google what brown-nosing was.
