My experience in English 1100 this semester has not been a good one. In this English class I've learned more about myself than I have about English or writing. What I mean by that is that I learned that my writing needs a lot of improvement and I need improvement as a student. I feel that I overestimated my capabilities as an intelligent writer and now I know what to expect in future English classes. Throughout this semester I have not been very pleased with my grades in your class, and what I take away from that is the fact that my writing does not satisfy you the way that I hoped and I need a tremendous amount of improvement. English 1100 was different from all the other English classes I have taken because of its extreme difficulty level. I feel that understood and met the requirements for all of your prompts this semester, but for some reason my writing did not suit what you wanted from me as an English student. I think I benefitted most in this class from you constantly not being satisfied with my writing. My unsatisfactory writing has caused me to realize I need to spend more time on my writing and I need to reach out to my professors and university resources for help in the future. What I benefitted least from this semester was being roughly graded on all of my assignments. The fact that I never got a grade higher than a C on any assignment in your class really screwed up my confidence and hindered my progress as an effective college writer and student. I also feel that I did not benefit at all from having to analyze works of literature. It was very frustrating to me throughout the semester when I would understand the author to have written something for a completely different than you and the majority of the class. I think you should have gone over proper ways to identify an author's motifs in works of literature before requiring us to blindly decide for ourselves what we thought an author meant by their writings. Also, the fact that you do not have your class on Blackboard is unfathomable. Why should students be required to keep up with our grades when you as a professor are the one who does the grading? The spring semester is over and I have no idea what my class average is. Thanks. WC- 412
