read to self

Exactly! How is a student who can't read supposed to 'read to self' for 20 minutes? Each student has a book box that they can choose to read from that has little paper books that have nothing but sight words and decodable words in it, but they are only 4 pages long. They get bored with that by 10 minutes. If I had more iPads or had books on tape I would let them do that so at least while they are being read to the can look at the words and try to read them. I love Daily 5, but when students can't "read to self' they end up doing other things and I end up taking away from the group I'm working with by redirecting them.
