Melissa, I really did love certain aspects of using the Word Nerds layout but it took a lot class time to introduce the words. So I believe I will cut that out. Since I have moved to 3rd grade, I believe I am going to use Text Talks to broaden my students' vocabulary. A Text Talk is a comprehension and vocabulary strategy. I will use tier two words from rich text and teach the vocabulary using the text talk format. Then I plan on using some of the games from the Word Nerds book. I especially liked word illustrations, counting dude bragging dude, powerpoint portrayals, and line it up. What are some of your favorites? How do you plan to incorporate vocabulary into your class this year?
