Ashley, I think it is great that you are so devoted to providing for the needs of your students as individuals. This is a constant struggle in the EC classroom, especially with time limits, scheduling and the lack of an assistant. But, it is definitely still something worth striving for. As I discussed in my post, for the past few years, I have relied heavily on Wilson Reading for all my students with reading struggles. I have begun to question this and am seeking to find a more balanced approach this year to help students rather than a one size fits all approach, because clearly in the EC world and in education in general that approach is not what students need. Maybe you would be interested in joining me on the journey. :)

Implementation of Common Core is another big issue of concern. I didn't think about that as an area of research in particular, but I certainly understand your concern. You wrote about your concern of not being able to help prioritize for your students. You do have some flexibility within the IEP team, that is why the plan is individualized per student. I often think of their objectives as the building blocks needed as we stretch towards the Common Core objectives. You do have to help make decisions about what is most important for your students to be able to do. I try to do my best to meet my students where they are academically keeping in mind that they are making steps and growing towards the Common Core Standards.
