When I first started teaching, I also questioned the effectiveness of round robin, yet still used it in my classroom -- likely because I was all that I knew. During that same year I turned to research and professional books to help me combat the use of this outdated oral reading strategy. I ended up purchasing Rasinski's book "Good-bye Round Robin" and have found that I now have a tool belt of other oral reading practices that are much more beneficial for my students. I would highly recommend it -- very practical classroom application!
