One of the simplest and most extraordinary things I've heard in grad school is that in order to get kids to read better, we must let them read more. This may have been a quote from Dr. Morris (I don't remember...), but it has set in me so much. I have MADE myself stop talking about reading so much and letting kids actually read! Of course, we still have discussion, but I have tried to make it a point to allow the talking to be more on the kids' side instead of my doing. It's such a simple idea, but so true.
