That's awesome, Susan. You really have put a lot of thought into ways to incorporate fluency into your teaching. I would love to see some of your resources if you could e-mail them! Thanks for sharing! I am finding that fluency is what is holding many of my students back. I am looking forward to trying to find a way to incorporate at least repeated readings into my small group, but its tricky because I only have me. I'm having to make some decisions about what is most important for them to get with me in small group and what I can provide within the larger small group; not to mention balancing all this so that they can meet their IEP objectives. I have almost finished administering the IRI and Words Their Way Primary Spelling Inventory. It is really helpful to have all this meaningful data and know where to start them. It seems like my 2nd graders will fit nicely into 3 mini groups. 4th grade is looking more tricky particularly because I am having to do some inclusion in order to be able to provide services to my entire caseload. The tricky piece is that the classroom teacher does different assessments so I'm not sure how well our groups will meld together. My next few challenges include A) finding good quality resource for my just barely beyond emergent readers and B) figuring out a meaningful and efficient set of rotations for some younger students who have great difficulty completing tasks independently. However I think I'm up for the challenge. I'm so excited about this year! I'll be sure to keep you posted.
