With the student that we just worked on comprehension with, I gave her an IRI to which she scored on grade level in almost everything but comprehension. Her flash score was low in the 7-8th grade level but her decoding at the 8th grade level was 90%. Based on that I decided to give her just the comprehension interventions because she read very fluently.

When I am getting ready to literature circles I do a book talk with each book and have them pick their top three. I stress that I only have a limited amount of books in each circle and therefore they might not even get their top choices but I guarantee that they will love every book in the circle. Then I just put them in the book they need to be in. I have done it for several years and there is hardly any problems. A few kids might say, "Man I wish I had that book." But that seems to be the end of it.

I wish my daughter had been like that, she was scared of chapter books forever. I finally got her to read some! :)

i think I might give it a try but make it optional. This might also give parents a better picture of what is being taught in the classroom.

I also put review videos up before test, etc. and my students really like it. So I think it would be really go for them. There are videos already for verbs/nouns that kinda thing.
