Picture sorts are not something that the Kindergarten teachers at my school uses; though after being in the class I found out that our literacy specialist has recently graduated for this grad program and uses them in her interventions all of the time.
In my school district it is pretty normal to have this many, we have small classes this year so we don't have as many in the red that we usually do.
Some parents are overwhelmed when they see and hear what their child does know verses what they should know.
For the students who we used in the study, it is really hard to tell if they will catch up by the end of the year. Especially according to the mClass assessments. If they are good at memorizing sight words and can use phonics and picture clues to figure out words they won't have a problem. But if they struggle with sight words it will reflect in their score.
