Ashley Carter Final Reflection

I think that during the semester, I touched on all of the three components of teacher research. In regards to a heightened sense of personal awareness of my own practice, I learned how to achieve this. I do not have my own classroom to utilize my own practices, however, I gained a platform for understanding them when they do come into play. I also learned a great deal about how I want my own practices to develop from observing the ways that Stacy teaches and interacts with her students.

Within the professional dimension, I have learned the most. As a teacher who is just starting out and has not had a lengthy amount of time working in the classroom, I have a lot to learn professionally. Speaking with Stacy and helping her to plan interventions gave me a chance to develop professional skills as well as complete our study. In the future, I will be sure to reflect on this time and utilize some of the practices used by Stacy in her own reading/writing workshop.

As a special education teacher, I am very aware that justice is to be sought for my students. Often, students receiving special education services are not receiving equal opportunities for learning. I will use what I have learned in this course to further my ability to inspire change for my students and students like them.

I would absolutely engage in teacher inquiry in the future. It is a systematic way to define a problem and solve it in the most effective way possible. Overall, wouldn't that be the goal for any profession? To implement changes in design that increase quality of the product. Stacy was an amazing partner, my efforts would have been nothing had it not been for her ideas and strong work ethic. In the future, though, I may consider working alone to master the concept and format of teacher inquiry. Then, as I become more comfortable with the process, seek out partnerships.

I have learned a great deal from this course, particularly in how to collaborate with others despite technological or geographical locations. I will absolutely consider these things as I move into my own classroom and begin to complete my own inquiries.
