Great article. Thanks for sharing.

The article talked about the problems with ESN. There are benefits, but they are few and mostly minor, especially when weighed against the disadvantages.

Sundog was ESN and was incontinent by 4 months old. The vets didn't know anything. I had to advocate for the treatment that I thought best. I gave her hormone medication which caused behavior issues. Thankfully, I was able to wean her off that. It took a couple of years to gain access to the beautiful soul that lay beneath her problems. It took even more years to understand what happened. She remained intermittently incontinent her entire life, but it was controllable after the treatment.

"The more we know, the better we do." Frosty and Icy had OSS (Ovary Sparing Spay). They still have their ovaries and their hormones are intact, but they can not reproduce.

Joyce gives each owner the option of OSS/vasectomy or ESN. Some chose OSS/vasectomy and some chose ESN in each litter. We will see how it works out. With OSS/vasectomy, you can convert to spay/neuter ... more

Izzy suffers from separation anxiety, but I think it came more from her mother than it did from the procedure. The breeder told us she had separation anxiety, but I didn't think anything of it.... more
