The two stories I will be using for the TC Boyle paper are “Modern Love” and “Carnal Knowledge” to compare and contrast the similarities throughout these significant stories. There are so many things to compare about with these specific stories but the main one that my paper will consist of is how desperate these two men in the book are. The other things I will be comparing are how similar the two guys are to each other and how crazy their girlfriends are. They are both in their early thirties which of course is a long time from middle age, both are very unsatisfied with their lives and just need some excitement, and they both want sex. Not only do they want it, they go through the most absolute insane things just to get in bed with the girls in the stories. Keep in mind that both of the girls are incredibly hot and a little younger than the guys. Though that is a great excuse to why they would do some of the things they did like give up meat or protest, it does not include the major things. There is at least one difference between the two guys and it is a major one. The guy in “Modern Love” was not able to obtain what he wanted from his crazy girlfriend. However for the other guy, he was able to get it in on the first date before Alf’s pee was capable of drying up. What shows how desperate the guys were of sex was the major things they went though. In Modern Love, the guy did the most downgrading thing you could do for any man, and that was wear a full body condom. He did that and put up with all of her crazy acts just to get denied in the end because he failed her doctor’s tests. Both of the girls were crazy however the one from Modern Love was just a bit more out of the ordinary. She was jealous of the Bubble boys life, made her boyfriend wear a full body condom, and even made him go through a series of medical tests to see if anything was wrong with him. Boyle does a good job portraying the image of a sex crazed man who is desperate for sex and will drop everything just to have some time in the bed.
