While it wasn't hard to pick a topic for my personal narrative, it was harder for me to write than the T.C. Boyle paper. For the Boyle paper, I had a set requirement about what I was supposed to do, but the personal narrative was harder to choose what exactly to write about. In high school, I never had an practice writing personal narratives other than my freshman year. With the lack of prior experience, I felt like I struggled a little more. This was also what made writing the Boyle paper easier. I had to do a lot of analyses and discussions about themes in my previous classes. Those kinds of literary analysis papers and the in class reading assignments are the easiest for me. Having the Boyle book and the stories right there to look at while I was writing made it easier as well. The strengths in my paper would be about the comparisons. The two stories I chose about animals and the environment were easy for me to compare than any other themes throughout the book. I wrote about Carnal Knowledge and The Little Fur People. And even though the stories had a lot to compare and contrast, I had a bit of a harder time since Alena was not the main character of Carnal Knowledge. Most of the story gave us a better insight to Jim and what he was thinking. We really only got our information about Alena from Jim. Another weaknesses in my paper would be with some of my analyses. I could have gone more in depth than what I turned in. The way that Boyle made Grace in The Little Fur People a character to like and dislike was interesting to me. I liked her throughout the whole story, but I could see how someone's point of view on her could change and I think elaborating on that more could have made my story better. I also could have brain stormed and continued with more contrasts than what I included. While I hit the main contrast points of the two stories, there were more that could have been talked about. I plan on fixing the mistakes in the next paper.
