When writing my Boyle paper, I felt that it was easier to write as opposed to the personal narrative paper. Personally, I find it easier to write when I have something to read, analyze and reflect on. When I wrote my personal narrative, I had to think about what to include and what to not include. It seems like I can write a better paper when I have more strict guidelines like in the Boyle book paper assignment. When collecting notes and thoughts to write the Boyle paper I had an easier time organizing and deciding what topics to highlight the most. Boyle has many in-depth themes that may seem hidden at first, but when you can find enough evidence to write about these topics, you can put together a great paper. Boyle's stories are interesting and fun to read so that makes it much easier to write a paper about. I was not that interested in writing the personal narrative because I could not find one thing to write about but I actually enjoyed writing the Boyle paper. This is because of the stories I chose actually being interesting and easy to read.
Some of the strengths in my Boyle paper are the way that I was able to use two themes and two stories in one paper and the actual themes that I chose. The two themes that I used, obsession and greed, were very easy to support and analyze in the Boyle stories. Another strong aspect of my paper was the quotes that I used to reinforce my analysis of each theme. I picked significant, understandable dialogue to use and was able to successfully support each point I made.
Although I feel that I had a strong paper, there are a few things that could use some work. The first thing would probably be expanding my vocabulary a little bit. I feel like I always catch myself using the same words but they are the same words that I have used since high school. Once I figure out how to stop this I think my writing will definitely advance. Another weakness may be some of my transition from paragraph to paragraph. I know that all of the right content is there in the paper but sometimes I struggle stitching all of the paragraphs together the right way.
