Argument Paper

I finally decided to write my argument paper on drug testing for welfare recipients. I have found that the Joyner Library Database had been the most helpful when it came to finding sources. Thanks to the class session we had where a librarian went over how to correctly use the data base, it was easy to find information to write my paper with. The side of the argument that I choose was welfare recipients should be forced to drug test before they receive aid. After all of my research, this just makes the most sense. In my paper, I discuss how much government money is used for this, how much of it is estimated to be wasted by drug users and how many of the recipients cannot find a job due to their addiction. While I understand that addiction is a very real and very sad problem to deal with, it is still not fair that the tax payers, who work extremely hard for their money, have to sit back and watch people take it and use it recreationally. The middle class in American suffers greatly because of this. If the government chooses to help the needy they need to do so wisely. The other side to this argument is that it is Unconstitutional to drug test those on welfare due to privacy violations. The whole point of welfare is to help people out for a short amount of time until they can get back on their feet. Back on their feet includes obtaining a job and being able to provide and support themselves and their family. To even get a job you are required to drug test. Also, if the average working American has to drug test to earn money then nobody should have a problem drug testing to receive it for free. All in all the point is that if anyone has to ask for help from our government, they should be more than willing to comply and if they aren’t then obviously they don’t need help bad enough therefore shouldn’t ask for it. Our government would save so much money and that would in turn help out our economy.
