Argument Paper

The final topic for my argument paper will be gun control in the United States. It seems that almost everyone has an opinion on gun control so I felt there would be plenty of information for me to research on whichever side I decided to argue. There are two main sides to the argument on gun control. Some believe that the United States needs to make stricter laws on who can own a gun, how many guns someone can own and so on. The other side of the argument holds true to the second amendment and believe that trying to pass more laws on who can get a gun legally will not help anything with the crime rates. America as a whole seems to be pretty evenly split on what the right course of action is to minimize the amount of deaths that are caused by guns. I have decided to write from the perspective of those who hold to the second amendment. Personally I identify with their side more so than the other. I think that the problem has nothing to do with those people who carry and own legally. If they want to solve the problem they have to dig deeper and look at how the people perpetrating the crime are getting the guns, most of which are not legal. Then attack from that side rather than making it harder for those trying to obtain a firearm legally for home protection or to carry out in public. For my sources I've liked using articles that contain statistics rather than some that are more opinion of the person writing it. Even if their opinion goes with the argument. Opinions do not win an argument, facts do. I have found a few different articles that compare the United States gun control laws to other Countries as well as their gun related crimes. I find it interesting as well how other countries view our laws on gun control, many can not believe it is so easy and others can not understand why people would be against guns at all. I think the paper will be very informative and convincing when all is said and done.
