Argument paper
Fri Apr 10, 2015 2:12pm

After taking a couple of days to decide what topic to pick, I finally decided to write about whether the United States should increase domestic production of oil and natural gas. I decided to write about this topic because it is somewhat recent and it also contains a lot of information on the Internet relating to the topic. I started off with about 5 topics but after taking some time to think about it, the others did not have much information that would help me in my argument. This topic also seems to have many opinions so I find it to be an interesting topic to write about.
There are two sides to this argument, which are the supporters that agree we should increase domestic production of oil and natural gas. Then there is the opponent’s side, which feels that the United States should not increase domestic production because they feel it is harmful to the environment. Each side to this argument has a point but I wanted to support the argument. Oil and natural gases are an essential for humans. If the United States does not produce it, another country will. At the end of the day oil will still be produced and the environment is going to have to take it either way. The United States should be more focused on saving money and helping the economy.
So far, I have not gone into depth with sources. After having a tutorial in the library 2 weeks ago about finding sources, I am more confident with finding them. I am clearly trying to stay away from sources that are unreliable. For all my sources, I plan on using ECU’s library website. I found out how helpful and reliable it is recently. I would prefer not to use Google that much to look up sources because anyone can pretty much put whatever they want on the internet. I have found that this past week’s lectures in class were also helpful. I did not have a very clear view on how to cite my sources but after this week, I know it will not be difficult. As long as I follow the important rules that were discussed in class, I should get a good grade.
