I was not expecting that video when opening the link. I thought this would be a discussion board about some long educational video but that actually made it easier to write this one. When I first got to this class, I was coming from a 12th grade english class with a teacher that hated to have fun in the class room and forced us to memorize up to 75 vocabulary words at a time. I was really hoping that my first college english class would not be one of those horror stories where students had to write 12 page papers and were reading pages and pages of text books every night. Honestly, I really enjoyed going to class and interacting in discussions. I surprisingly liked reading the TC Boyle book too. Each story you picked out was pretty interesting or at least a little entertaining. Boyle's stories were a quick and easy read and the discussions in class were humorous. I felt like I did a good job interacting and speaking up when I needed to and had a great time in class. Every day there was something to laugh at and that made it go by fast. i think what I benefitted the most from this class is how to use criticism on my papers to improve the next time. I started out with a bad grade on the first paper but improved each time. Although I hate reading the sometimes harsh critic on my papers, I know that if I just follow what you have to say, the next paper will be better. I also got better at finding sources to use for papers. I did not really know how to use the ECU libraries site to find more credible sources but now I will use it every time. What I think I benefitted the least from were the discussion boards. I know that they were meant for us to reflect on our writing and talk about our writing processes but I thought they were annoying and kind of pointless. I may be saying this just because they were my least favorite part of the class but I honestly did not benefit from them.
