I actually enjoyed this class. I used to like English in high school up until my junior year. I was indifferent to it my first semester when I took Appreciating Literature. Now Iím getting back around to somewhat liking the class. That may change next semester, however. But at least Iím getting back around to not hating learning my own language. My experience in this class has been better than most of my previous English classes. In previous classes, we were taught specifics of English. I liked that in this class, we were not taught specifics but what the things that actually mattered. I also liked that we did not spend too much time on analyzing the Boyle short stories. The stories were not overly analyzed either. In previous classes, we spent about three weeks on each novel we read and the teachers wanted us to pull some deep meaning behind the authorsí words. With the Boyle stories, we spent one day on them and did not have to pull something deeper beyond the words of the authors. The stories were also modern and not anything like Shakespeare or A Scarlett Letter or any novels like that. The Boyle stories were understandable, straight to the point, and semi-relatable.

There are a few things from this course that I feel have benefitted from. Your ďobservation, quotation, explanationĒ technique actually helped me with doing an analysis. Before I did not like doing analysis papers, but that technique actually made it easier for me to do them. Doing the argument paper, I think I benefitted from as well. With knowing how to use the databases, it helped make researching easier. I do not think my grade on the paper will show that, but I did learn from it. Analyzing the Boyle short stories was also helpful. Analyzing them taught me to just look at the obvious, instead of looking too deep. The thing I feel I least benefited from is probably the personal narrative paper. I would hope that my grades throughout the semester show that I have actually been learning something in this class instead of everything going over my head. That would have been a waste of both of our times.
