All in all I really enjoyed this class as a whole. I really liked how the focus was on our writing rather than pointless other assignments and how we stayed on one author the entire class. This class was completely different from any other English class I have taken in the past. I have never really had any luck with my previous English professors, they gave assignment after assignment that did nothing to improve my writing. I liked how in this class we spent time going over each paper rather than just being given a description and trying to figure out exactly what was wanted. I benefited from the comments on each paper as well as the time we spent going over each assignment in class. Even though I had a hard time writing a few papers I was never left wondering what was expected from each paper, and that saved a lot of trouble and time. There were however a few things I wish were different about the course. I felt like compared to the other English professors the grading in this class was a bit harsh. I have other friends in other 1100 English classes and they have talked to me about their grading. On the first paper I wrote mine and then also helped my friends out with hers. Her paper was possible the worst thing ever written, she had sentences that ended with haha at the end. After I helped edit her paper a bit it still wasn't great but it was better. She received a high B for hers and for mine, and C+. While I was happy with a C+ I felt it should be higher. From reading the comments there were no real problems with my paper besides a few small grammar errors and they somehow brought be down two letter grades. I don't like instructors who had out easy grades but there is a such thing as being too harsh. I think the main two things that didn't benefit me was the harsh grades and the studentship points. I learn better listening to a discussion rather than participating in it, it doesn't mean I'm uninterested or not paying attention. One of my pet peeves is professors who give participation points. I think it's ridiculous that someone can receive a higher grade just for talking about nothing in class. I have found that in classes that give participation points students should be told it is better to let people think you're a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.
