My experiences in past English classes have all depended on the teacher. I used to struggle with English and my writing but as teachers broke down what they were looking for and explained how they wanted my work to be laid out. Throughout high school the types of assignments I would have for English would be a five page research paper on a topic that I had no interest in making it a miserable assignment. Recently though since my senior year in high school I have had more freedom in what I write about making me not dread the classes as much. Last semester I was in English 2000 which is a world literature class. This class had me read a poem or sonnet and then write a three page paper on it which was brutal. I find it hard to take a 12 line poem and elaborate on it for three whole pages. I did alright in that class but I am more excited about this class. In my opinion, I would much rather write a longer paper on something Iím passionate or know about as opposed to a shorter paper with a topic I donít know or care about. I find it most beneficial to write about topics that interest me and to get feedback on my drafts before I turn in my final draft to optimize my chances of getting an A. Breaking down what is wanted in a paper is a huge help to me and makes it easier to stay on topic for my papers. When a teacher just posts an assignment on black board and just says, ďgo at it,Ē I really donít know what Iím supposed to be doing. That is why I am more excited for this class where so far I am well aware of how I am supposed to be composing my papers and who I am supposed to be writing them too. The break down for the personal narrative of who my audience is has been a major help in me starting my introduction in a more constructed and better way which in the long run will help my writing overall and help my papers flow better throughout.
