I chose the quote "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." This quote proves that whenever hardship is thrown in our direction we can overcome it and become better as a result. All throughout my life I’ve had multiple experiences with learning from my past. Overcoming something difficult or fixing past mistakes doesn’t just make you stronger, but it also makes you wiser. My parents allowed me to screw up in certain circumstances just so could I learn from it. A situation that I was put into when I was in high school helped make me who I am today. I was going through a rough patch in life during my freshman year in high school and school was definitely not first on my list of things to do. I was running with a group of friends that also had the same attitude that I did. I had had plenty of lectures from my dad telling me to “stay in school”, “do your homework” and what not. I had a paper coming up that I was not looking forward to doing, or not doing at all. One afternoon I was hanging out with my friends and they came up with the bright idea to head to an abandoned house to look through it. I refused to go but they continued to try to talk me into it, it almost worked. In my head I decided to head home and complete my paper instead of running with these hoodlums. After enough refusals, we finally parted way. I managed to get my paper done and I could actually feel the pressure from that paper being lifted off of my back. It’s a good feeling I have to say. Next day at school I noticed none of my friends were at school, this wasn’t a huge surprise because they skipped school more often than not. Later I found out they actually went through with entering the home, only to have been seen by a cop and caught red-handed. Not only was this breaking and entering, but they were also charged with larceny. As soon as I heard that and began to image if I had actually gone with them, I immediately decided to drop them as my friends and continue to go to school. That decision I made that day couldn't have been one of the best decision I've ever made. Because of that decision I’m now where I am today, and am thankful for it. Even though nothing physically happened to me to question past choices and learn, it had a huge impact on my life because I constantly think about where I would be right now if I did go with them and continued down that path.
