Aside from my fascination with Nietzsche, I absolutely adore this quote. Throughout my life, I have faced many twists, turn, and bumps in the road. Needless to say, life can suck pretty badly at times. When I was a kid, my dad used to tell me to imagine myself after the situation. Picture what I would feel like, how I’d be different and how much I would grow. He always told me that that the other side of the problem existed and was very much real. That’s why this quote really speaks volumes to me. Not only does it come from one of my favorite philosophers, it’s also very much true and inspiring. Every bad situation has a finish line; it’s temporary and when it’s over, you’ll look back and realize how strong the suffering has made you. While sometimes life may not be so kind, there are beautiful moments that make it all worth it. For me, it’s hope for the future; hope that one day I will get to comfort my children when their sad, save a child’s life as a pediatrician, marry someone I love, and dedicate my work to bettering the human race. It’s what keeps me going at 2am when I’m struggling to stay awake and finish my homework or those times where it seems like absolutely nothing can go right. It’s my motivation to wake up in the mornings and get on with my day. When I look back at some of the things I’ve endured in my life, I recall thinking about how I wasn’t sure that I could survive through it and that it seemed like life would never get better. Now, I’m thankful for those trying times because they have molded me into the person I am today and while I still need work, I’m pretty proud of who I’m becoming. What hasn’t killed me has indeed made me stronger and as I get older, I hope to be able grow from the rough times and not let them over take me. This is advice that I wish everyone knew about because regardless of what you go through the world keeps on going and so can you.
