"That which does not kill us makes us stronger." -Friedrich Nietszche
The reason I chose this quote is because I have had to make a lot of changes in my life with all of the moving my family does but each time is something new and interesting. When I was in eighth grade, I moved to Southern California from Alaska. I had grown up in Alaska and was about to leave all of my best friends. After moving, I started to get used to the way of life in a place that is the exact opposite of where I had grown up. I learned that starting something new may seem like the end of the world but you can always get past it and learn new things about new places. Finally, after getting used to California, my parents decided to move to North Carolina to a town where my mom's family is from. I loved California and all of the things that came with it and I all of a sudden had to leave it all. Moving to a small, slow town in North Carolina could have been the worst thing that could have happened to me in the middle of high school. At first I hated living in North Carolina but as I got used to it, I started to appreciate it a little more. Now going to college in NC I really have started to feel more at home here and that is the first time I have felt like that since moving here. I have learned from my several country-wide moves that each and every place has different details that make them unlike any other. There are things in every place that I have lived that, at first, I hated but as I lived there longer, I began to enjoy every place that I have lived in. I do not think that Nietszche was meaning death in a literal way in his quote because it could also apply to other aspects of life, not just physical. I felt like some part of my life was ending whenever I had to leave a place a had grown to love. Each time I moved to a new place I would be able to tell when I was "past" the point of hating the new location. In that way, what did not kill me while moving and starting over did make me stronger each time.
