So far the TC Boyle stories have been quite amusing and unique to me. TC Boyle is a compelling writing who uses his skills to not only tell a story but convey a message as well. I can definitely say Boyle is really creative with not only the naming scheme for his characters but also with how he organizes the sections and stories of the book. Also, I like the TC Boyle stories because I would much rather read multiple short stories then just sitting and reading through an entire book. So far my two favorite have been “On for the Long Haul” and “Modern Love”. I picked the long haul because I really followed that story up until the end and really had to reread the ending a couple times before it finally clicked what really happened. I can say that the story really challenged my thinking and I actually really enjoyed reading it and it had some truth to it. The same goes for the love story, that story was very humorous to me and did depict in a way some of the things men will go through for sexual intimacy. As far as dislike, I didn’t enjoy “Big Game”. The main reason is just because I found it really boring and I much rather prefer reading stories that keep my interest or something that I can relate to in some way. The Boyle stories are really not like anything I have read before because much of my other English classes consisted of work from Shakespeare. While I do like reading plays, I do enjoy short stories just the same, especially ones of this sort. Also, when it comes to the discussions I enjoy this much more than those that I had in high school. For one, the discussion are student-based meaning that you pretty much have to read the story if you want to be involved. In high school, the teacher basically did all the work for us so it was no need to read the book. In my English career I haven’t really examined much short stories and I find it interesting how a story so short can hold so much meaning when truly evaluated.
