The two T.C Boyle stories that have really stood out to me were, On for the Long Haul and The Human Fly. They both were in the death section, but each death was different and interesting. On for the long Haul was my favorite though. The story is very ironic. Also, my twin and I are convinced a zombie apocalypse is bound to happen, so I liked the fact he was preparing for his own Armageddon. I also like that Bayard stood up for his child. He was such a little wimp the whole story and the one time he decides to stand up for his family, he chooses the worst person to stand up to. Cullum is one of those people you hope never to meet during Armageddon, so Bayard was in trouble from the get go. The other story I enjoyed, The Human Fly, was about a daredevil. The story was interesting because of the stunts he decided to preform in it. My favorite stunt was when he was riding on the axel of a tractor-trailer. What in the world made him come up with that idea? The story is pretty sad though because of how poorly his management team treated him. They didn’t care about his life; they only cared about lining their pockets with money. The stories in the death section are sad but the events leading up to the deaths are decently entertaining to read. I am dreading reading the love story, I think those are corny and boring but the death section keeps you guessing. You know someone in each story is going to die but you don’t know when, who, or how, so its fun to jump to conclusions in your head and see if they end up happening or not. I look forward to reading the everything else section because I am curious as to what Boyle deemed important enough to be included in the everything else section. I love reading so I have tried to take English courses that mostly focus on that. In each class we either read books like this where they were a combination of short excerpts. Other classes I just read plain old chapter books. Each story I have been assigned to read I have genuinely liked though. English teachers make pretty decent choices when it comes to reading.
