I think that especially for these students that it is just a one concept at a time teaching method that is going to get through to them. Using one book to teach how to hold it or how to turn the page, another to learn that the text means something. It is all very slow process and trying to teach more than one concept per book may seem overwhelming to the student. Its important to know how much your student can handle and to be aware and not push them too far and into frustration level. I think that as teachers with the longer we are in the field and working, the more comfortable and knowledgeable about the right time and pace we will become.
