I don't think learning a second language is necessary for teachers; however, it would be very beneficial. My problem is which language do I take as a second language? Spanish, Chinese, sign language? What if I learn sign language and never have a student that needs it? Is that a waste of my time? On the other hand if I had a student that needed it, it would be nice to not have an aid in the class for the sole purpose of communicating...so I am and have always thought about a second language, just not sure what to do and how beneficial it would be.
