My home town has a large Hispanic population that typically does not speak English. This can make communicating with parents and new students difficult. Going back to the sign language part of this conversation, I have seen how sign can be a great go between for English and Spanish speaking students. Like was mentioned earlier, sign is relatively easy to learn and can be used universally. If signing is a way to better communicate with and connect your students then it is worth it to me.
