Reading Aloud Silently

I too thought it was very interesting that when we are reading silently we still act as if we were reading aloud. As I was thinking about this, I caught myself mouthing the words and hearing them in my head as I read for another class. This made me wonder if teaching students to read silently could be done easier than I originally had assumed. If reading silently is like reading aloud, could we not just show kids how to read while mouthing or whispering the words to help them see that the two are similar?
