Would it be possible to have questions before hand to have the students go over so they know what they are looking for or what they know what they need to understand to help them focus on what they need to focus on? As far as silent reading goes, I believe that we need to start with small passages and work with specific content questions and try to start out small with strategies and work towards the point where a student can pick up their own book and understand the concepts.
