I really found myself thinking about the statement you made in the first sentence for quite a bit. I feel like students with ASD excel in word identification as it typically has very concrete rules unlike comprehension which can be much more abstract. One main aspect of comprehension is the ability to identify characters' emotion, which we know children with ASD do not excel at as well as the ability to make inferences which is very abstract in nature as well. It is being able to merge then two that will make a teacher successful in teaching children on then spectrum.
