I certainly agree! It is hard to expect our students to keep up if we are not the ones who are staying on top of new, research-based techniques. I think it is very easy for a teacher to begin using one method of teaching reading, writing or any other subject, then to continue using that method because it is easier or more comfortable to them to use. We have to realize that this is a disservice to our students. There may come a time when we have taught for several years without changing the way we do it. I feel at that time it is important to remember how much or students have changed over those year and make our instruction change equally to fit the group!
