Jean, I also questioned the use of technology. One of the readings highly encouraged the use of technology for students with ASD. While I am not opposed to technology, I am skeptical about students becoming too dependent on technology for communication. Especially since most students with ASD struggle with expressive communication. My best guess is that it depends on individual needs of each student and if the teacher monitors effectively, he/she should know when to integrate and when to remove the use of technology.
