I loved the subject of your lesson. I am assuming since you are the “Elementary Educators” that this lesson is for younger students. Students in this age range should love making up their own animal and pretending to be that animal. I think the subject alone would be motivation to want to write.
I also like that you put your full lesson plan in with the mini-lesson so that it was easy to make connections. Working with partners is a good idea, as I am sure the students would want to talk about what they are doing and this gives them that opportunity.

      I really like this mini-lesson; quick and easy. It addressed good instruction on animals and zoo-life but also related it back to the students interests. Showing an example of the teachers favorite... more
