Hey Karley!

I read this article too and I didn't know what to think about it at first. I have always been traditional in thinking about how students learn, but that is because I didn't grow up in school learning with technology until late high school and college. While I think it is important to be able to write in more formal settings, I think that as long as those skills are taught to students (and the situations is not specific as to which writing styles and mediums should be used), they should be given the choice to write with the medium and style they feel most comfortable. Outside of school, these students will more than likely be using technology and informal writing to communicate, so we can;t neglect this type of instruction either. A healthy balance is key to success as well as teaching the students when to use which styles and mediums of writing.

Great ideas.

I wasn't thinking about how texting and messaging format may interfere with the real writing we want to receive and see as teachers. I know they made it clear that most students were not to focus on... more

I liked that a lot too. The students would definitely have fun having a pen pal and getting messages back and forth. The point of it was to teach correct ways to E-mail and format those, so this will ... more
