I couldn't agree more with your point that parents often feel unsupported. I remind myself frequently that I have had years of education and even specialized training to support students with ASD and often I am perplexed at how to address a situation. I cannot imagine how parents who just had this thrown at them must feel. One thing that I started doing was putting something in my weekly newsletter called "what works well in our classroom." It is a small section that just gives tips and suggestions of things that we are doing in our classroom that work well with our students. We plan to vamp this up next year and are going to create a Facebook page that are parents will be invited to join. We are going to use it as a way to post resources (articles, videos, etc.) and we are even going to shoot some videos modeling some strategies for our parents. This way they can actually "see" how to implement some of these supports. We are hoping that it will be helpful to some of our parents!
