Response to ASU 4+1 Lesson Plan

I really enjoyed your lesson. Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus is a great book and I have yet to find a student that doesn't engage with it, so I think it is a great idea to use as the base for this lesson. Your description of your student with ASD was very thorough and would be easy for a substitute to understand. I also really enjoyed your teacher modeling portion. It is so important for students to see what they are about to do sometimes in order to truly understand it. I might include in this section a moment where you ask another student what their favorite ice cream is and why, that way the class could see that their reasoning/explanation is just as good as the one that the teacher provides for chocolate. This would emphasize that just because people's opinions are different, it doesn't mean that they are wrong. I appreciated the way you specifically laid out what students were to talk about in their partner groups. This leaves no room for ambiguity and sets guidelines that will help each student to know what to say. Overall, it was a really excellent lesson! Nice work.
