This also confused me because of the conflicting opinions. I would think that some copying would be necessary for students to just be able to work on learning how to hold the pencil correctly and form the letters that make up words. I think that maybe if copying were the only activity that he was doing it would hurt his learning, but helping him become comfortable with the actual physical side of writing through copying may not be so bad after all?
