ASU 4+1 Lesson Plan

I really enjoyed reading how you would teach about opinionated writing. I think your choice of topics (both the ice cream and book) for introducing this are fabulous ways to engage the children. Asking each student to provide multiple reasons for their opinion is a great way to teach children how to write solid paragraphs in general. Even in college I tend to follow a basic outline built on a handful of strong arguments. I think with the ice cream example, you could ask the children if anyone had a different opinion and what their reasons were to show the students how having different opinions is okay. I also like the use of small and large discussions within one lesson. I think using many discussion techniques allow children to think and discuss more freely with their peers. All in all I believe this is a wonderful lesson plan!
