This is a wonderful analysis of the material that entails a great question. I know it sounds a bit "cliche" to say that there is a time and place for everything, but in this instance it would be hard to argue against it. There seems to be no clear right or wrong answers to the question. Repetition is often how we learn certain things like times tables, cursive letters, etc.; however, repetition in the since of improving literacy skills may not yield desired results.
Because ASD is so unique, I think that repetition has a different use for every case. Repetition could be used positively to create an environment where a student with ASD feels comfortable. We often see that spontaneity or change in style can be detrimental to learners with ASD because it creates a sense of uncertainty and anxiety when something out of the ordinary occurs.
I think it is very important that we learn from our students who have ASD because they can teach us so much about what works for them specifically. WE cannot definitively say that repetition is good or bad until we have tested it with our students and measured their responses.
Excellent topic!
