How do we teach Language deficit students?

I wonder the same thing Hillary. I do agree that that percentage seems pretty high, considering that not all ASD individuals have a language deficit. I do wonder thought, how do we teach ASD students with language deficits? I read in a book one time that most students will use technology or pictures to communicate. I have never worked one on one with a students with ASD, but when do we know that they are understanding the concepts at hand and are able to communicate back to us about it? I think really the only strategy we can use is to question, support, and be understanding when they are communicating with us. Each child is different, and so they are each going to have a different method to communicating and learning.
