One thing I "took away" from this weeks assignments is how important it is to give our students choice and use a balanced literacy approach when it comes to literacy instruction. Student choice will engage your students and this will allow better literacy instruction to occur with your students. It is also important to teach phonics but also allow time for students to discover things on their own about a book.
